about
I wrote Hands We’d have to Shake during a long stretch of unsuccessful job interviews. It deals with taking on the responsibilities that you know are expected of you, when all you want is to enjoy the isolation and comfort of home. The claps heard in the song were created by layered recordings of myself clapping from different positions in the green room.
lyrics
Isolation in a room
Everything is safe
From all the hands we’d have to shake
From all the smiles we’d have to fake
And I wonder why it is?
Why am I at ease?
When everything we’re ever shown
Is everything we’ve ever known
